One of the exciting aspects of the creative process is the combining of materials from different art media. Barbara Fast first learned how to create embellished hard-shell gourds and, later, woven baskets. While she continues to enjoy working within that framework, she has also been challenged to combine embellishment and basket making techniques with other forms of art.
For example, she has created "baskets" out of pottery, and even felt. She particularly enjoys using natural materials such as reed, seagrass, seed pods, feathers, even antlers, in the baskets that she creates. Barbara is also a member of the Gualala Arts Basketmaking Group and the Bay Area Basketmakers.
As the founder and now assistant manager of the Coast Highway Artists Collective she hopes that you will enjoy the many different forms of art represented at the gallery.
